I'm on the Choose FI Home Page
« on: July 05, 2022, 07:47:55 PM »
It took them about 5 months to post the article, and they removed all links, then watered it down a bit to fit their brand (with my permission), but I just realized they posted my article and it's currently on their home page.

https://www.choosefi.com/

If it's been replaced by something new, here's the link: https://www.choosefi.com/underearning-to-six-figures/

Anyway, first thing I thought to do was share it here. You guys have always been a great community, and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Congrats!  The article hits a bit close to home lol.  Also a little directionless in my 20’s, and worked a lot of lower paying jobs, now doing a bit better in my 30’s, still a touch on the low side for the HCOL area, but frugality is making up the difference

As someone who stayed too long on a job with mediocre pay, I can really relate.

Nice article and good job getting on the Home Page!

Nice one! I totally relate. I started my first post-grad-school job a long time at a job with stagnant pay, though I did manage one promotion that brought me from 40K to 55K. I stayed there for several years until I realized that there was just no way I was going to be able to get out of my lane. I made two leaps in the last year and jumped from the mid-60s to nearly 100K.

Though I spent waaaay too long in grad school, I'm grateful for the extremely frugal habits I developed during that time.

Nice job! I'm curious if they omitted something here. What happened in the annual review that make you start looking?

"By January of 2021, my pay had been raised to $92,000.

I received an annual review in May, then began applying – 60 positions in 6 months."

Also, do you know what happened to the family owned businesses?

Yes, there's stuff cut out of the piece.

The May, 2021 annual review was positive. However, at that point I didn't want to wait any longer for promotions. Right around the time I got my current position, my boss said I could apply for a promotion the following year (this year) which would have been fairly fast where I was.

The owner of the accounting firm sold to another CPA and took a position as President of another company for a couple years. Today, he busies himself with a couple rental properties and his boat.

The owner of the factory sold his building for about $8MM under the guise of the company shutting down, but he is now operating a smaller version out of another building he owns. I was trying to find where the relative who was VP went, but can't find anything.

I saw Chris post on another post that Choose FI removed his article because spread his article on this forum.

My guess is they just didn't like that he expressed they watered down his work to fit their narrative.

Hi @Pootie22 and @achvfi :

Sorry for such a late reply.

Happy New Year!!!!

I noticed in October it was taken down and then reached out to be told I'd been driving unnatural traffic to the site. This came from emailing friends and asking them to share. It created an anomaly on their end, and in protecting their business from (perhaps) being punished in the next Google update, they removed the article.

Could they have emailed to say, 'Due to a, b and c, we have to take the piece offline'? Sure. Could I have let them know in advance I'd be doing x, y and z? Absolutely.

It's really not a big deal. Sometime soon, our dear friend Grumpus Maximus (a relationship I have Choose FI to thank) will be posting it. The piece will be closer to originally written with a very brief note in the pre-intro about how the exodus of Baby Boomers from the workforce played a huge role.

Regarding the deleted MMM thread about the Choose FI piece being removed, I'd initially made a post here, but realized it was a poor use of my time, and that discussing it in detail would not be "adding" to the forum.
