Exclude DRAMA from your life.  One overly dramatic frenemy in your life will just suck you dry, leaving less heart that you may have for your own endeavors.  Minimize your time with these people (especially if they are family), and reap the rewards.

I really like this advice. Extremely good advice.

Wow, so many great suggestions!  For those who want to maximize their earning potential, I would recommend the following action:

Joining Toastmasters International
- for some $100 a year, I have learned when to start talking, what to say, how to say it in fewer words, and when to shut up.  I also created a strong professional network of fellow project managers, serial entrepreneurs, nurses, retired officials who had a habit to testify before US Congress back in the day, MBAs who know people in the high places, and retired military officers who created a Toastmasters club for homeless vets to help the vets deal with their mental issues.  Did I mention that, like many on this forum, I am strongly introverted?  Within the last four years, knowing what to say and how helped me get:
  • A job in another department with corresponding 25% pay raise
  • After a layoff, finding a job within a few weeks and negotiating compensation from initial offer with 52% salary drop to final offer with 40% salary drop
  • Finding another job in a nicer environment and negotiating the offer from initial 30% to final 35% raise

Tell myself a bedtime story. I used to one of those who took forever to fall asleep, rehashing the day's events, worrying about tomorrow. Now, I put aside all that and enter my fantasy world. I add details, I decide what kind of people inhabit it, what challenges they face. I have been doing this for a few decades now, and it rarely takes more than a few minutes to fall asleep. Every 5 years or so I get bored with the story and start a new one.

Haha, I used to do this. The only problem is that I started thinking too much about details in my fantasy world and end up late night browsing for info on how to make antibiotics if I time traveled to 50 BC.

Wash your kitchenware immediately after cooking (i.e. before you sit down and eat).

Why this is effective:

1) Food doesn't have the chance to dry and stick, meaning less net cleaning time overall.
2) You're more likely to cook if all your kitchenware is ready to be used. This inadvertently leads to cutting down on junk food.
3) Less time worrying about having to do it sooner or later. Also having a clean kitchen feels nice.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
