How I saved hundreds on clothes
« on: May 09, 2016, 06:59:39 AM »
I had to replace some parts of my wardrobe lately but was finding a hard time trying to balance quality and price.  Then I found a website called ThredUp which is an online consignment store with a huge selection.  Some of the items are used while others are still new with tags attached but all are available for huge discounts!  I spent $50 and got 5 different items from Banana Republic, J Crew, and Gap. I'm never buying "new" clothes again but technically a lot of these clothes are new with tags still attached even though they are "used"!
Here is my referral code:
http://www.thredup.com/r/ZIUDDA
if you use it you will get $10 to use towards your first purchase and so will I :)

I think there is already a referral thread floating around about ThredUp. This website is how I found out about it.

I'd also recommend Schoola- I've found a lot of great clothes there (my entire maternity wardrobe, for one; and lots of nice polo shirts for my husband.)  You can PM me if you want a referral code for a discount.

Thanks for the recommendation!  ThredUp doesn't have men's clothes so I would definitely be interested in Schoola.  I'll PM you :)

I've also had good luck buying clothes used off ebay, but of course the things to keep in mind on there are to only buy from sellers with good ratings, and to buy items with detailed descriptions and good photos, so you know what you are getting and how used/worn the item is.

I LOVE Thredup, and now also use it for my daughter's clothes. It is really easy to navigate and most things I've bought were keepers. The only thing I returned was a European sized dress, I don't think the international sizing chart is really accurate so now I just know to only buy US sizes.

If anyone knows of a similar service that also ships to Canada, I'm all ears... :)

Ebay can be good, but there is a ton of counterfeit branding out there sold on Ebay, so be careful.

I just walked through a TJ Maxx for the first time a week ago.  Wow, great prices in there.  I'll likely get my socks/boxers there from now on.  They are brand new, name brand, and like a third of the price it seems like.  I was tempted to buy some when I was inside, but I didn't really need anything.

I usually go to outlet stores and I've found huge discounts:

-GAP: a sweater originally $45 for $5, three other shirts for $5
-H&M: two shirts for $10, flats for $4
-Banana republic: a shirt originally $18 with a discount I'll never understand, I paid $6.

My BF is very mustachian himself, we saw a Guess moto jacket that we both loved, but not his size, so I looked it up online and found it on the Macys website for a price of $198, waited a few days and ended up paying around $80, I know it's not very mustachian but we just loved it and will probably last him decades

Spending your money on something useful that you love and will last decades; How is that not mustachian?

haha I guess I still need to grasp the real meaning behind it, I'm not only frugal but cheap too, so anything that seems rather expensive makes me freak out
