Home Based Business Regulation Stories?
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:49:57 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm working on an independent study to complete my certificate in sustainability policy, and I'm writing a paper called Regulation and the Modern Maker; the Modern Maker meaning people who are crafters, artisans, or industrialists of some sort who work on a small commercial scale. Do you sell items on Etsy? Run a bunch of 3D printers in your garage? Grow tomatoes and can sauce to sell?

I am looking for stories related to these kinds of activities and how they are regulated. The paper will examine whether or not regulation has kept up with modern technology and tastes. In my estimation technology has created a great deal of opportunity. The web allows people to sell the goods they make, as well as learn how to make them. Tech like 3D printers, screen printers, CNC machines and the like have allowed people to move production work into their garages - or even their desktops.

How is this a mustachian paper? For one, its about working for yourself, something I think is very in line with what we talk about here. Secondly, one of the benefits of my day job is free in-state tuition - how mustachian is that?

I'm looking for information related to running these businesses and how regulation plays a part. Any stories from all the home based mustachians out there?

If you don't want to post your story in public, you can PM me, and I'll keep your name/handle out of the final product.

Thanks everyone,

Dave
