Just sold the car
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:56:41 AM »
I have the extreme luxury of having a work vehicle due to traveling 75% of the time, but I was able to save enough to put positive equity in my car so I pulled the trigger and sold it.  With the money from the sale I was able to pay off a small loan I had left over from consolidating some old debts. With all of those debts/expenses gone that's an extra $500 a month in my pocket which will be going to pay off my student loans.

Congrats! Sounds like a nice debt snowball. Hopefully soon most of it can go into savings.

Nice! I did this with a work phone for awhile, but never had the luxury of doing this with a car.

Thanks! That's the plan. I have a pretty big hill to climb to pay off my student loans, but I'm on track to do it in  2-2.5 years. The good thing is that if I then take that money and throw it into savings I should be looking at a 60% savings rate though.

It can be a grind being away from home so much, but not having to pay for a car and getting per diem which more than covers my daily food while traveling is a huge job perk. The real trick will to see if I can still keep a position with a company car once I exit my current position in 2-3 years.
