High-speed internet for $25/mo
« on: August 16, 2012, 02:45:44 PM »
So here in the PS household, we have very few bills.  We pay our electricity and for any extra sillies we want, like phone, internet, TV, etc.  Being frugal and such, the only thing we splurge on is internet.  We have smartphones (received as gifts) but no data plan, and we own a wireless router so we just use the WIFI for our data.  Cheaper phone plans but we still get the smartphone perks.

Anyway, for our area, good higher speed internet runs about $50/month.  Well, when the promotional $30/month period ran out for our (great) provider about a year ago, I called them to ask if they could keep me on it, because otherwise I'd have to switch carriers to keep a good rate.  Like most service providers, the $30/mo is still profitable for them and they prefer to keep me rather than see me go, so they extended it for a year.

Earlier today I called again, because my year was up.  After doing the usual customer service phone annoyance drill, I got on the line with a helpful fellow who took me down to $25/mo for the next year.

So just for the asking, I cut my bill in half.  And I think I'm going to talk with my friendly neighbor across the hall about splitting the bill and sharing wireless.  We could be looking at internet for $12.50 a month.

AWESOME

I had for years been paying about $60/month for internet (Charter cable, the only high-speed option out here), but a few months ago got an offer to "upgrade" to their even-higher speed service... for $29.95/month.

We pay $22 for 3/1 internet. It is not high-speed.

:D

I am just always surprised, and shouldn't be, that politely asking for a discount often gets you one.  It's my new goal to always ask.

Regular price internet is $60/mo here, but once they let it slip that I can't get the highest speed available in my area yet. I latched onto that fact and complained about the speed (which is not an issue!) and now I get internet for $15/mo indefinitely. ALL telecom prices are negotiable.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
