Ham it up!
« on: May 18, 2014, 08:14:25 AM »
Last month there were great specials on ham due to Easter. I bought 2 bone in hams, one smoked and one brown sugar glazed. They were 99 cent a pound and I estimate I got 7-10 meals out of each of them. I still have some of the ham left in the freezer waiting to be used in future meals. Plus I still have the bone left from the second one and I thought I would do a big batch of white bean and rosemary soup in the crockpot and put the bone in that. I love those good holiday meat sales, they usually go such a long way!

Nice!  We have a ham for Christmas each year, and the leftovers last a full week easily--the ham can be put into breakfasts (omlettes, ham & eggs, etc), lunches (sandwiches) and dinner (soups or "leftovers for dinner").

Nice!  I love the seasonal stuff.  Ham is really versatile too . We also scored 2 $99/lb hams.  It's great having freezer space to take advantage for seasonal stuff like this.  We split one right away in meal - size packs.  Plus we've got black eye pea soup for our lunches this week.

After Christmas, Aldi put $3 off stickers on their $0.99/lb hams. I've got several of them in my chest freezer.

I wish I had chest or upright freezer! No room but every time I see big sales like this I think how much I could save if I could buy and store the limit allowed (usually 5)
