I would just like to share my quick story, it's both encouraging and frustrating at the same time. My wife is prego, and since she's over 35, they recommended she have genetic testing done just to make sure there were no problems. It turned out fine, I really didn't feel the testing was necessary anyway, she was just barely over the recommended age limit of 35. So anyway, a couple months later we get a bill for $2762 for the testing. I was like "WHAT???" They had submitted it to our insurance, and apparently it went towards our deductible (which is like 6K/year), but they wouldn't actually pay any of it. So, we called them, and the lady said, "Oh, well if your insurance wouldn't pay, we can go ahead and reduce the bill to $200." While I am very grateful they reduced it, it really irks me that there can be an industry where something can have that drastic of a change. I would imagine the testing probably costs very little to do, they probably make a profit even at the $200 level. There is no reason they should be billing the insurance close to $3000. I sell car parts for a living, and to think that we could get a $3000 engine reduced to $200 would be absolutely unheard of. No other industry could operate like this. Just curious about your thoughts. /rant over. :)
