Selling my F150
« on: February 21, 2014, 05:25:39 AM »
Put my Truck on Craigslist got 2 phone calls.  One guy came and looked and wants to take it to a Maint shop to have it checked out.  BOOM that pretty much means it will sell i dont know anything that is wrong with it.  And you dont take it to a shop if you're just kinda thinking about buying it and spend 200 bucks for someone to look it over.  its paid off so it will all be money in the bank.

If it doesnt sell and you know any complainy pants in the KC area looking for a gas guzzler send them my way

Congrats.

I got rid of my 4x4 daily driver pickup almost a year ago in the KC area. Put some winter tires on my Accord and have yet to have any of our snows stop me.

Yeah i was lucky enough to score a 2008 Ford escape hybrid from my company's fleet sell off last year.  this puppy gets me 40-45 mpg in the summer to and from work and 35-38 in the winter.  the truck has been a dust collector for the last year.  i use it to pull my boat in and out of storage 2x a year.  i can borrow a truck for that.

Yes i own a boat.  I'm an avid wakeboarder its an older boat a 1999 inboard.  that i paid 33% less than what i can sell it for right now.  i live in a lake community and use the hell out of the thing.  It's not really as expensive a hobby as most people think.  I probably spend less on my boat and wakeboarding each year than most golfers spend.  Now the 20k worth of capital i could have if i sold it is a different story.  haha.

we will be putting our pickup (Tundra 4x4) on CL also, hopefully this weekend if I can get to cleaning it up.  We replaced it with a RAV4, not as badass as you jhartt but better than the pickup.  As for the boat, when we had one we always used more gas in the pickup getting the boat to the water than in the boat itself, even cruising several hours at 4000 rpm to get to the good fishing (115 Honda OB).  But then we didn't live on the water and had to tow at least two hours roundtrip to get to the launch.

yep i consider myself a bit of an outlier when it comes to boating.  i can be off work and wakeboarding in 20 mins if i want to.  i live in a super affordable community for boating.  yes its an expensive but its one i've chosen to live with.  Would i have a boat if i trailered it to and from the lake HELL no.  Would i have it if i didnt live 7 blocks from it sitting on the water HELL no.

Good job deciding to do away with the F150!  That was my dream ride...and I almost pulled the trigger on a brand new fully loaded model after my last raise.  Thank goodness I discovered the site before I signed on the dotted line....I now have less feelings of envy and more feelings of sympathy when I see my coworkers pulling up to their office jobs in theirs!

Good luck with the sale, and with the new-to-you car.

I sold an F-150 in 2008 after my work bought my current car for me. I thought about keeping it, but it felt much better to have 75 $100 bills in my hand than to have a truck in the driveway sucking insurance money out of my stash. I used the old "tape a price to the window" trick and parked it out by a busy street. I had a phone call within 2 hours, and it was sold within 2 days.

Sold mine on Craig's list in less than two weeks. I miss it some days, but sure is nice to have the savings on gas and insurance. Installed a trailer hitch on car and my new trailer gets me by now in most situations.
