I've got good news, and more good news
« on: January 28, 2015, 04:40:33 PM »
The Good News, folks:

My car recently crapped out! (a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, so go figure). Why's this good news? Because now I can stop punching myself in the face for lazily defaulting to the car every time I needed to go somewhere.

But wait there's more...

And the really good news: I just landed a sweet gig at a company as a Content Specialist (I graduated with a film degree ;), making a handsome 5 figures... oh, and the place is 2.4 mi. from my 700 sq. ft., 1 bedroom apt! Cha-CHING!

So, the way I see it (thanks to MMM tutelage and the inspiration of you fine folks on the forum), in the span of a few days, I've managed to:
- land a sweet gig
- grab a decent salary
- cut my commute cost to 0 (which incidentally increases my "salary")
- stop polluting the environment with my dirty vehicle
- stop using the worst Chevy product ever invented
- shed some lbs. while enjoying fresh air
- AND wickedly grin at the dejected looks on driver's faces as I scream by at 14-16 mph while they idle their cars in a gridlock

Anyway, so darn happy, I thought I'd share! :)
I'm starting to feel like ER is just around the corner.

Awesome work! I did a similar thing and posted it here http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/share-your-badassity/fuck-it-i%27m-walking!/50/ although I still have my car :(

I'm trying to only drive it on 2 days of the week. But yeah, not having the car (when mine was in the shop) cut the lure of it so you don't need to summon all of your willpower to not drive.

My wife had a Pontic sunbird, which I believe was the predecessor to the cobalt. I remember spending a ski weekend on the side of a road broken down. Come to think of it, now I know why gm went down the tubes.

Thanks folks! Yeah, had the first dip in motivation...Woke up late (thanks a lot Super Bowl) and was so tempted to use the car...
But talk about environmental design: I remembered, while I technically still have a car, it does not perform traditional car functions like going forward or backward or, you know, turn on. So, saved from another face punch and still going strong!

And to react to this as super positive... kudos!
The rest of the herd would have panicked, went to the dealership and financed another car.

Sounds like you've been banking some Karma points!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
