Gave up TV
« on: September 24, 2014, 05:11:05 AM »
I was so upset with the biased BBC reporting on the Scottish referendum I decided I no longer wanted to pay my license fee of £12.12 per month.  I don't watch TV a huge amount anyway, and never had satellite/cable anyway, so I called the TV licensing this morning and cancelled it. They are refunding me £84! (And, the rep didn't sound at all surprised when I gave her my reason why, I know a lot of Scots wh have done the same!).

Now you will have to wait for Season 3 of Call the Midwife to come out on Netflix- But seriously good for you. I am sure you will find better things to do with your time and money now.

My Dad is constantly cancelling newspapers due to their slanted coverage on some issue or another.

Yep, I'm totally fine waiting to see DrWho or the Great British Bake Off on iPlayer or some other series' on Netflix.  I did feel a little reactionary cancelling it but was honestly very upset by the poor investigative reporting - and I don't see why Brits should have to pay £145 a year to license an "impartial" BBC!

I gave up TV over a year ago right after my ex-husband moved out of my house (and straight into is now-wife's arms ... but that's a whole different story). In fact, when he took his TV back, I never bothered to get a new one. Life's too short to spend it parked in front of a screen watching other people live theirs, anyway, and I definitely don't want to spend my time with my son doing THAT. (We have joint custody, 50/50.)

I am trying. I watch very little but I really want to cut it down to 1 or 2 hours a week. There are a few shows I like. F - it, starting today I will only watch 1 hour a week of shows and 1 movie from Netflix per week.

I've never paid for cable, but watch too much tv using the internet and our bunny ears.

Congrats on cutting the cord!

Congratulations on getting some of your life back!  After we moved 3.5 years ago, we didn't get cable, and a few months later got rid of the TV as well (we weren't using it).  There are a few shows we'll watch, but we're pretty choosy, and they're all available online.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
