After buying my first house I saw my garage had plenty of potential. I haven't bought a gym membership for about 18 months since starting my own gym. Plenty of money saved right there. Never have to wait for the equipment and can listen to whatever I want in total privacy.
I got the mirrors for free. They were lying in somebody's backyard, looking like they were waiting to be thrown away and I just asked if I could snatch them up. It was not a problem, the owner was in fact going to throw them away. 0 dollars spent (or krónur, the currency here in Iceland).
The olympic bar and weights are unfortunately luxury items. There are not a lot of free weights for sale on the icelandic internet flee markets and after searching for many weeks I gave up and spent about 500 dollars for them.
The green dumbells I got for free from my nephew who was also just going to throw them away. The heavier black dumbells I bought for about 100 dollars. Of all my stuff the I use the dumbells the most and am saving to buy more of them.
The pulley machine I bought used for about 200 dollars. I use it mostly for pulldowns.
In one of the pictures you see my phone tripod and speakers. I use it to watch my (free) youtube subscriptions and listen to vlogs as I train.
I bought another luxury item, the Conan the Barbarian poster, for about 10 dollars. It gives me inspiration. I have been a big time fan of Arnold (and his somewhat frugal philosophy) and the legend of Conan, who through hard work and struggle went from being a slave to being a King. I remind myself I'm just a wageslave at the moment (far from FI) and I need to invest and be frugal to move from being a slave to being a FI King (lol).
All in all I've spent less than 800 dollars, which I belive is less than you spend for 1 year gym membership here in Iceland. I can train whenever I want and I love it. In the mirrors you can see my 1997 nissan micra. I drive it proudly despite affording bigger luxury cars my friends go for.
