Funeral arrangements modified to enjoy life now!
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:32:19 PM »
I just heard from an aunt and uncle of mine. He turned 80 last year and she will be 80 this year. For her birthday, she is getting a cruise. She's always wanted to go on a cruise and he has had no interest in joining her. For her birthday, he made arrangements for her to go on a cruise of her choosing with a nephew of theirs who will accompany her. She was explaining to me that she was extra excited because she hadn't thought they could afford for her to take a cruise. She then explained to me where the money came from. They had responsibly and diligently made funeral arrangements for themselves some 25 years ago or so. Their arrangements at the time were in keeping with what the trend was -- bodies in caskets, exposed at funeral homes and transported to churches and then cemeteries. Pricey. Now, she explained, being cremated is much more accepted. So they changed their arrangements to something much less pricey and used the refund from their final arrangements to fund her dream trip.  I am so pleased for them that they will be able to enjoy spending the money on making a life long dream come true while still having final arrangements in place for themselves. This just seems like such a happy story I wanted to share.

Viking-style funeral? That's one I would not mind attending! We shall drink Mead and tell stories of your greatness. ;)
