How I am supporting my cable cutting with Bing Rewards
« on: March 01, 2014, 08:12:55 AM »
I found a forum post awhile ago about Bing Rewards before but I think it deserves a quick post because of the high value I'm finding. I also want to say I've felt zero intrusion from this, and only a little inconvenience, but it offsets the rate hike Verizon gave me recently on my 15/5 FIOS.

I just requested my second free month of Hulu Plus after using Bing for only a few weeks. That's $16ish for just changing out my default search engine in the Chrome search box, but also getting a few referrals at 200 points.

Referrals just went up to 500 points, and a month of Hulu Plus is 450 points for the first, and the second is costing me 420 since I've attained "Gold" status which comes with reduction in point costs.

Lest you think I'm just here to grab up some referrals - I mean I am but I think there is some added value here - let me tell you about my experience in how easy this was, and how I hope to get about $100 of free Hulu for a year, provided they don't change the rewards, without even getting referrals. But some referrals would be nice.

I signed up for a Microsoft acct (with my gmail address), and started searching just to try out Bing. Its OK. Its not like if you don't find what you are looking for you aren't allowed to go to Google.

I set my chrome address bar / search box to use Bing in Chrome's preferences to make it all easy.

When I go to the rewards dashboard there are a few freebies to click on, for a few point.  You also get a point for every two searches, with maximums on browsers and mobile. Just from this alone you can add up to a month of Hulu if you want to put in the effort.

What happened next was pretty awesome. I hit a certain # of points, and because I had clicked a referral link (found on this board) my referrer got 200 points, and I unexpectedly got 200 points! I also got another 50 around then for reaching Silver status.

I added my referral link to the board, and 2 people signed up AND hit Silver status, which triggers the rewards, I suppose on both sides. I can't guarantee that.

Well BING upped it in March for 500 points for referrals.

So let's keep this going. If you are reading this and you aren't signed up, click my referral, and sign up.  When you hit Silver, add your own referral link - and that will become the active one.

Sound good and fair?
