Fixed our "new" minivan's doors!
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:24:15 PM »
We bought a 2000 Toyota Sienna a couple of weeks ago.  Got a great price for it, although it needed a little work.  We replaced a headlight and a brake light, but the biggest problem was that the two passenger side door handles were broken.

Evidently, Toyota dealerships charge about $300 in labor to fix these, and about $100 in parts.  We bought the two handles online and I installed one this afternoon.  The second one was a little more complicated, as parts had fallen down into the door and we had to reconstruct the mechanism (thank goodness for my husband, who came home and helped me figure out how the pieces fit together).

Took us about two hours, with the majority of that spent on figuring out how to fix the more complicated one.  Tonight, we have a minivan with four working doors!

I'm going to be sexist for a sec.

I was reading your story and I was like "awesome man, good job."  Then I read further saw you were a lady and then I said to myself... "my wife would NEVER attempt something like that."  This chick is badass!

Then I became jealous.  Then I looked at your username and figured it said something about you as a person.

Nicely done!

Thanks, guys.  It was actually a lot of fun--I like taking things apart and putting them back together.  Since the minivan is already 13 years old, I think we're going to try to do a lot of the repairs/maintenance ourselves.  Next up, learn to flush a transmission....

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
