Fixed my tub faucet
« on: January 18, 2014, 09:35:40 PM »
My bath faucet hot water side started dripping.  After checking the house water pressure I figured it was a bad cartridge.  After some research (old purchase) I found the model and a $30 cartridge from the company.  Further research found the part for about $18 with Amazon free shipping.

One of the bought frequently with items was a spring/washer set.  The comments on that item indicated that it was frequently the cause of leaks in this faucet.   I figured, why not try the washers first.  The shipping on the $5 part was not free.  A quick search identified it at Home Depot for the same price.   I did buy online and reserve for pickup.  Unfortunately, local Home Depot wasn't ready within 2 hours and I had to help them find the part when I arrived at the store.

Oh, the replacement washer stopped the drip,  it was a 5 minute repair.

Great job! It feels good when you actually figure it out yourself doesn't it?

It certainly does.  My father was a handyman, frugal if not Mustachian.   He built and fixed everything.  As a teenager and college student he had me help some but I was always reluctant and found it boring.
After I was on my own, and as a newlywed, then a single income earner and father my interest peaked.  I took a plumbing and electrical course.    Most of our house updates and repairs over the years are DIY.  My wife is good at trim, painting, wall paper, and tiling.

It was satisfying to succeed fixing the leak in short order.

Cool.. yes in my two rentals I had a shower valve cartridge leak (sadly that one went down the inside of the wall and has rotted out the floor!) and a dripping Delta faucet in the other rental.

Home Depot had the shower cartridge ($20) and the washer kit ($4).. both were 10 minute jobs.. the floor I will look at in the Summer..:)
