I fixed my A/C for much less expensive than quoted!

I fixed it myself for the cost of the blower motor, research, and sweat. $258.99 + $99 (diagnostic fee) instead of $1884 + $99 (diagnostic fee). I'm calling this one a win. :)

Last summer my grandmother's AC stopped working.  Multiple companies came out to try and fix it, and none of them could (old unit in attic).  They were quoting $10-$15k to replace it, since they couldn't find a special discontinued relay they needed for it.

A relative who is extremely handy took a look at it, then adjusted a wire, and it has worked ever since!

Must be a great feeling!

Thank you! The bolded text is definitely what the electrician recommended I do. No. I'm going to keep these running for awhile longer. Yes, I could get more efficient, but building new units is inefficient when these have a few years left in them.

This reminds me that DH fixed our completely dead heater a few weeks ago by reading the manual, diagnosing via the unit's light signal blips, and buying a $10 part from a sketchy-looking Amazon seller. Super proud of him, super increasingly skeptical of calling any type of handyperson unless we research the issue ourselves..DIY always and forever!!
