Fixed My Leaky Dishwasher!
« on: September 10, 2015, 12:00:09 PM »
A few days ago, I noticed a huge puddle in the kitchen after a wash cycle. After toweling it up and emptying the dishes, I started a brief rinse cycle to see where the leak was coming from. It was coming from the bottom left corner. Uh oh, time to call the appliance company, right?

No way!

After doing some research, I figured that the first step would be to replace the gasket. It's a little insert at the bottom of the door that prevents water from leaking out. The model that I have (Frigidaire) apparently has a tendency to wear out and need replacing.

Went on Amazon and found the right size gasket with their helpful fit tool. I put in the make and model of my dishwasher and searched for the gasket; it gave me 2-3 different options. I picke done, ordered it, and when it came I watched a few videos on how it's done. It was really easy! The hardest part for me was getting the cover back onto the dishwasher, that took forever.

Total cost: $10 plus some research time.
Cost of repair tech to come out: 2 hours of leave + $100

Totally worth it, totally awesome. It's a little thing, but it feels great to have avoided a classic consumer trap.
