We got a new cabin (free and clear) last year and there was an old 1988ish Snapper rear engine mower left on the property. I'm not very handy but didn't want to pay $100 per mow for the 1 acre lot and do that every other week for 5 months (total cost of $500 for the season + $200 to do fall cleanup).
So, I decided I would just tinker with the mower to see what I can do. I took the carb off and cleaned it. New air filter drained old gas added fresh gas. Added new fuel filter, changed oil, deck belt, sharpened the blade and replaced a tire. All-in-all, about $50 invested, runs great and I found a bagger that fits on craig's list for $10.
Save $700 this year and $700 last year in mowing/clean costs and it runs good enough I think I should get a few more years out of it at least.
