Feeling like a true Mustachian
« on: August 07, 2015, 03:06:50 PM »
Hi all,

Just wanted to share what I feel like is a sign of myself becoming a true Mustachian. Today I have unexpectedly finally been given the raise that I wanted at my work place to bring me in line with others doing the same role as me. This will be an increase of around $5000 dollars a year. I have been feeling for a while like I was being taken advantage of but now that feeling has mostly gone so I'm really pleased.

I am more pleased though because this is the first raise I have had since becoming a Mustachian and I can say that I will be putting the whole lot to investment spending which increases that by 10% per month. I have no inclination or temptation of spending it on some kind of reward or just having more disposable income etc. I feel I am already at a level of enough when it comes to that. I have also not needed to celebrate tonight with a fancy meal or anything else like an expensive one off purchase. I instead have had some chips and curry in a tray with a couple of beers ($8) and am happy with that.

Clinking beer cans with anyone else towards the closer journey toward FI.

Chris

Cheers! and congrats, it's always nice to know you are appreciated, but it is way better when that also shows up in your wallet.

Guess, I'm not "that" Mustachian yet - I probably would have spent that first increase on a nice big rock:), but I'll join with the beer and chips anyway:)

Congrats! At my last job I was underpaid by $12,000 - the guy who worked alongside me literally had the same resume! So I know how that feels! But hey, changing your situation when you're unhappy is the way to go. :) Good for you, sir! I click my metaphorical beer can with yours.

Thanks Rosy, I have a couple beers to spare ;).

And thanks Meowkins. I still have someone who I teach and train and often feellike I'm bailing him out a lot although I don't do it much more. He was on $14000 more. I however am now at least closer to others and have been given a raise after 2 years of getting a promotion without more money. I stayed because there's a lot I like about the job and knew it would likely come eventually.

That's awesome news. Sometimes I think there too much focus on spending/frugality and not enough about trying to increase one's income. Of course, if you can do both...you are well on your way. :)

Admire your restraint; after a recent 15k raise I had to splurge on something!  I spent $85 on an extravagant and totally awesome card mat for our weekly gaming night... (and then increased our investments from 15% to 35%.)
