Dishwasher panel fixed
« on: September 01, 2014, 10:20:11 AM »
We have one of the KitchenAid dishwashers with the hidden panel, where you have to open the door to see the controls.  Recently it started acting funny and some of the LEDs were glowing and eventually they started blinking and wouldn't let us run it.

I looked in the owner's manual and user's guide and they're pretty useless.  I took the kick panel off and found the wiring diagram/troubleshooting guide in the pocket glued to the insulation.  This is what should be in the owner's manual.  It described how to test the control panel (you have to basically remove it and trick the washer into starting by unplugging the optical sensor twice) and the panel was the problem, probably got wet.  I used google to find a pic of the optical sensor so I could figure out how to unplug it by braille, as it's underneath the tub in the center.

Reassembled and all is good.  From now on I'll be more careful about wiping the control panel clean, and use only a lightly damp cloth I guess...

Funny, I hopped on the computer to Google something I want to DIY this morning, but I took this little detour here first (yeah, that doesn't happen often). Good for you for figuring it out. Now that you've had such smashing success with your dishwasher repair, you'll have the confidence to tackle even more repairs, ultimately saving you loads of green soldiers. Wonderful!

Yesterday, DH was trying to fix the automatic sliding door on my van. It only opens intermittently. He learned how to take the door apart by watching a YouTube video, diagnosed the problem, and then Googled the part. He found it on line for $30. I hate to think what a dealer would have charged for the same repair.

Thanks. I repair a lot of things including our cars. I posted so others will know to look for that "secret" diagram/manual that's not in the owner's guide. It's like some sort of treasure hunt sometimes.  I call stuff like this "service call generators".

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
