Debt free, again! Woo hoo!
« on: July 10, 2014, 03:28:29 PM »
5 years ago, I had a great salary, no debt and life was good. Then somewhere priorities went out the window and five years later, I had spent much of my retirement account, and had accumulated $27K in debt. In December of last year with the help of MMM blog, I came to my senses. And mostly, realizing that I will NEVER retire if I keep up this pattern...despite my very decent income, I buckled down. As of July, I'm now debt free again and have been meeting my Roth contribution goals. A big part of this debt reduction was trading a nearly new car for a 12 year old one. My next goal is to do something I've never done before, have a short term cash stash (savings account with about 3 months expenses). I have also been putting about an extra $400/month (40%) to my mortgage. At 39, I feel I'm 'starting over' and lament my past decisions, but one thing is for sure...the next 10 years will be different!!!!!!
