Converted husband to clippers and home haircuts for him (buzz cut) 14 years ago.
Im off and on growing mine out and would go months between (cheap) haircuts. Then I had a friend offer to do them for free.
Shes been cutting mine for two years, but lately she has been so busy I have to wait weeks past when I really need one, so Ive started doing my own again. I give my kids haircuts, too.

Have you seen this technique?

I do all of the haircutting in our house and have for years.  A $20 investment in a set of clippers was wise money spent.  I have done the self-cut several times, too (as shown in the video above), but do not like the way it looks.  Kind of choppy and frizzy for my thick hair.

Mostly, I have been skipping haircuts in favor of banking cash.

Over 10.5 years since my last haircut, and counting... at some point my ponytail is going to wither away to look like this guy's, and then I'll have to face reality with a pair of scissors.

Is this an update thread?

Because at the end of this month it'll be precisely 18 years since my last haircut.

I don't think the thousands of dollars I've saved on hair care has made any difference to my financial independence, but it's saved me a lot of time & hassle over the years.

A very old thread, but I think it has increased relevance today! I have always gone to Great Clips to get my hair cut because I didn't have the courage to do it myself. Well, now it's the time of COVID, and I don't feel safe getting a haircut, even as restrictions are eased on such establishments.

So, I drug out the clippers I bought on a whim when I was just out of college... I think I used a "3" guard but I'm not quite sure as they're bad clippers and nothing is labeled... A lot of buzzing later, and it looks fine. Next time I think I'll go up a size on top and down a size on the sides and back.

Never paying for a haircut again.

Thinking about going the ponytail route myself, sadly sans surfboard.  But avec des skis.  :)  Work may not care if they can't tell on zoom. :)

cut mine for the first time, #2 on top, #1 at the back. neighbor gave me her late husband's conair clippers. i think the blade may be a wee bit dull, as i have coarse hair. took a lot of passes to cut my top cover. wife says it looks fine since we're working from home now. i haven't been able to edge and do the finer stuff, but that's ok. will watch some youtube videos if i do ever want to do it again. if successful, then i'll invest in a better quality clipper.

when i start going back to work at customer site (which is who knows when), I'll go to the barbershop. i enjoy getting a buzz cut by the pros.
