My MIL has ALZ, lives with us, and hates to have her hair cut. It is silver, with lovely, soft curls, when she has some layers. I've taken her to the salon, but she balks every time. I finally decided to do it myself, with my husband close at hand in case she fought it. She didn't, and my first try was an improvement, but it didn't have enough layers to get the full curl effect. Last night, I cut it again. Zero resistance from her (a miracle) and it looks even better now. I don't care a whit about how much money it saved, I'm just glad she doesn't look like Underdog (if you're young, google it) any more.
I've been cutting DH's for about five years. He's not picky, doesn't have a ton of hair, and it looks fine. So convenient! We have ahuge shower, so I cut it in there, swab up the trimmings, then he takes a shower. Easy peasy.
