Title: Cut my monthly mobile phone cost and increased my data at the same time
Post by: WhiteTrashCash on July 31, 2019, 09:05:32 PM
Thanks to a suggestion by another MMMer, I switched my mobile phone service from Verizon Wireless to Mint Mobile, which reduced my monthly cost from $59.34 to $16.48 (including all taxes and fees) while simultaneously increasing my 4G LTE data plan from 2 GB to 3 GB. Unlimited talk and text. And I was able to use the same old smartphone I've been using for nearly 5 years. It runs on the T-Mobile network, so it's not as fantastic as Verizon's coverage was, but it's more than adequate for my needs. Also, they provide Wifi Calling.

Referral link if you want to check it out: http://fbuy.me/nrKAg (http://fbuy.me/nrKAg) Full Disclosure: I would get a credit from Mint Mobile if you sign up but honestly I'm just really happy about the savings for the quality of service and I want to spread this around everywhere.

I switched a couple months ago, and initially was very happy with it. But recently, I've decided to move back to Cricket, because Mint's network slows to a crawl during the evening when I am most likely to be using the phone: so much so that apps and websites frequently time-out, and my traffic apps don't work on the drive home. From what I understand, network congestion can vary greatly by area, so hopefully it's better in your area than in my mid-sized midwestern city.

Wireless service is very subjective: it can vary so much based on location and usage. Hopefully it really works out for you!

So far, it's been working well for me and I had my reservations because Verizon to T-Mobile's network is not apples-to-apples when it comes to using the same mobile device. I do live in a fairly well-populated suburb of a major city, so that may be a factor in my case, but I do want to point out that Mint Mobile will send you a sim card and give you a free trial period if people want to just try it out and see if it works for them. Couldn't hurt.

And I think it's far superior to what I've seen from other ultra-low-cost MVNOs like Republic Wireless.
