cut my internet bill in half! was easier than I thought...
« on: January 23, 2014, 04:04:41 PM »
I have att for internet.  After a year contract at $25 they upped the rate to $46!  Called to cancel and I got, "well what if we change the rate to $22?"

Offer accepted.

Congrats! This works for a lot of different types of bills. I just got my cell phone bill lowered by $20 a month a few months ago by calling and asking what the cancellation fee was because I was going to switch to prepaid to save money. They put me on hold for a minute, came back on the line, and told me they were lowering my bill by $20 and gave me unlimited minutes.

Our Comcast bill was already pretty high, and then it went up from $64.95/mo to $66.95/mo just for internet! I got on their website and went to the chat support. The first analyst was very nice and tried to help but best she could do was drop our speed from 25 mbps to 6 mbps while saving me a whopping $17. I told her that was quite a downgrade for little savings so she offered to connect me to the order entry team. Another very nice analyst checked for promotions and was able to find the exact same setup we have now for $29.99 a month for 6 months. I'll take it! Now I just need to remember to ask again in 6 months.

Good job. Even though I tell people to do that it hasn't worked for me in years though until it is too late.

I am one of the fortunate few who has access to two high speed ISPs. Every year I call up my current ISP (TimeWarner Cable at the moment actually) and tell them I want to leave because the prices went up, and they say they can't do anything about it. I then call up the other ISP (Verizon FiOS at the moment) and get a great deal. The old ISP calls me (without fail) 2-3 weeks after I cancel and ask my why I canceled. I state it is because of the price. They then proceed to tell me they could have kept the price the same and I sigh, as they could have saved me the work of changing but they said they couldn't do anything. And the cycle repeats every year, but at least I get really cheap service.

Damn, lucky! :(
I called to cancel and get back to prepaid ( Virgin mobile, PLEASE AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!! ). Not only did it take 3 different people to manage this incredible feat but I haven't yet been able to register my credit card on their website to buy a prepaid card, after 2 calls and talking to 4 people.

They were supposed to call back within 24 hours, having fixed the issue. 48 hours later they hadn't even gotten to my file ( I called) and it's now a week later and they haven't called back. They are the most incompetent idiots of all time and I am sorry I ever signed up with them... ARGGLE. lol

If anyone is reading this, please avoid Virgin Mobile :D

Good job on the contract deals though, have to remember that... So hilarious how rich these companies are. They'll happily cut fees down in half and still make cash and they buy entire stores at the mall that just sell phones and cellphone plans. When I see this massive waste, I know I'm getting screwed.

Wish I could get them to do the same for me. Every time I've tried this they say, "I'm sorry, there are no promotions available for your account at this time." :-\

Just cut my tech bill to zero!
Discovered my company hands out dumb phones with unlimited calling. Canceling iphone service
And will use this iphone as as a wifi camera/photo storage/music player :)
We dont have internet or tv so total electronix bill per month will be $0
(Also canceled gym membership $70 month and switched to progressive car ins from geico dropped from 70 to 50 month)
2014 starting well!

Man, I need to look into this.  Ours is a painful $74/month...face punch.  There are few options in our rural area.

Nice! It really never hurts to ask.  I did this with a rewards credit card and they waived the yearly fee indefinitely, that made me feel pretty awesome. lol
