Complete: 2014 Deductible Maxed - Two Kids - EOY Vasectomy
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:37:17 PM »
Hey all, a slightly uncomfortable topic (zing!).

My 2014 deductible is maxed, and I have an option with my DR to go in for a vasectomy tomorrow. It would basically cost $100 from my HSA. My spouse and I are happy, we have two little kids and really would have a hard time conceiving (pun!) of having more.

Would it be badassitry to hurl myself over the edge on this one and make that appointment?

I don't think you make that decision based on deductibles.  If you want to do it, do it, but don't do it because it would be cheap.

I agree.

Been there, done that, but the decision is completely separate from the financials of having it done. If you were going to get it done anyway then great, but don't rush just because of a deductible...

Completely understand. We're "good" with the choice. It just causes some personal cringing...

Oh, regarding the personal cring issues, just get over it... :D

Really not a big deal, no worse than any other small medical procedure. Take a pill for sedation if you wish, but there isn't much pain involved. Really not a big deal. :)

Worked for me.. no big deal.

Actually when My Wife and I decided to get married she said "Well ONE of us is going up the clinic!"... I thought, wow no kids, thats pretty badass.. Until I understood she was referring to me..:)

Do it.  Not to scare you, but there's really no pain involved AFTER the needle goes into the nerve that leads into your testical.  That needle feels like getting kicked in the nuts.  x2

It's done! And agreed, that was the bad bit.

So, net costs for my NYE present = $110. Saved $990 versus if I had done it today! (Also the extra expense of kids, birth control, etc...)
