Congratulations on dumping the car payment.
We have been car-payment free for at least 10 years. We drive a 1996 Dodge Dakota (140,000 miles plus on odometer) and a 1998 Subaru Forester (240,000 miles plus on odometer), both of which have proven to be ultra-reliable.
We've calculated that dropping the notion of going to newer cars every 4 or 5 years reduced the size of our required financial freedom nest egg by some $300,000. So, yep, we've been "earlier retired" for quite a few years now -- in big part thanks to driving our older cars.
So, good luck on YOUR no-car-payment financial journey.
