My favorite gift to request
« on: June 06, 2014, 02:58:10 PM »
I just got home from shopping for a few necessities at Home Depot.  Seeds, some food plants for the garden, a new blade for my Sawzall, rebar to build some low hoop houses etc.  Didn't spend a dime, because every year for Xmas and birthdays, I ask for Home Depot gift cards.  I love not having to spend money on things I need, especially things like these that are investments in saving money on other things.  Gift that keeps on giving, indeed.

Nice!

I prefer cash instead, that way I'm not tied to one store. Or Craigslist becomes an option too.

I don't understand how giving cash has gotten so unpopular.

I like HomeDepot gift cards too.  Cash is very useful but I find people don't like to be judged by how much they can afford to give.  Others feel cheapened as if donating a physical gift which unless the person specifically requested might end up being returned in the hopes... you guessed it, cash.  :P  For me, over the years I've grown to not care what others think about how much I elect to gift, if at all.  If I can't spare $100 then I will part with it.  I don't understand why some feel giving or even receiving cash as a gift is a bad thing.
