Just got approved for three new cards!
« on: August 16, 2018, 09:19:34 AM »
I've been doing the credit card rewards hacking for a while now. I keep most of the cards open after getting the rewards to season them for tradelines, so you get to a point where the pickings get a little slim when looking for new cards with decent bonuses. I had some expenses coming up, so I started looking for cards. I received a targeted offer from Regions (I opened a checking account with them for the bonus) that was good for $150 cash back after $1000 spend. Car insurance for six months is $846, so that will cover most of that spend. I saw that Citi came out with a new Aadvantage card with no annual fee, so I applied. You get 10,000 miles after $500 spend. The second half of property taxes on one of our rentals is coming due, $493 - spend met! I wasn't looking for other cards, but I had a targeted offer in my email this morning from Bank of America for a business card - $200 cash back after $500 spend! Whaaa...???? Can't pass that up, especially considering the class my daughter is taking at the community college eats up that spend quite nicely (I think her tuition total was just under $500). So, not only do I get 10,000 miles on American, the cash back is enough to pay for 4 tires and installation on my car! It doesn't help with Mrs. Ducky19's assessment of me being a credit card whore (over $300,000 in available credit at this point), but I call it a win!

My minimum for a CC signup is $500+ value.  The pickings have become slimmer.  I'm not nearly as active as I used to be.  I hope the sign-up bonuses start to creep back up and the minimum spends star dropping back down.  I'm not a fan of $5k in 3mo.

I have pretty much milked all of the larger bonuses dry (a few exceptions, but waiting for the bonus to get better since it's AmEx). I don't mind signing up for a new card with a lower bonus - especially if it's cash - if I know I'm already spending the money. If I'm able to use the card later for tradeline sales, even better. Mrs. Ducky19 still has quite a few options left for bigger bonuses, but she's not as keen on opening up a lot of cards so I make sure it's well worth it before we open one in her name.

Unfortunately that AA card will make you ineligible for another AAdvantage card for 24 months, so it was probably not worth the tiny bonus.  If you go on r/churning and find the Code Sharing Thread, you can find people giving out AA mailer codes that give you 65,000 AA miles when you spend $4k in 4 months.

The best part is they have no 24 month language. I just got approved for one about 20 minutes ago.  I am going to stockpile a bunch since I am over 5/24.  Currently at about 250,000 for myself and 160,000 for my wife.

x2.  It takes at least $500 to blow my skirt up!  I'm fixing to sign my wife up for chase's two new business cards with no annual fee.  I'll transfer the points to my reserve card and that will equal $1500 of free travel.  I've got two spots open under 5/24 but saving them for southwest at the beginning of next year so we can keep our companion pass going.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
