Bought no gas for 5 months!

The first part was that I convinced my SO to get out of his crazy 3 hrs per day commute and get a local job. Since he started the new job (accessible by transit or walking), we've barely used the car. He filled up on Sunday and I was looking back to see when the last time was and was blown away to realize it was November 21! Previously, he filled up every 10 days, averaging $121/month in gas alone.

Hooray for no more clown commuting, saving money and reducing fossil fuel consumption.

SOs family lives nowhere near public transit. Additionally, we like to go camping to places that are out of reach otherwise. I did the math and it's actually cheaper than carsharing, since the car is paid off and the insurance is really low now that he drives it so little. If that ever changes, we will ditch the car (that is the plan post-FIRE anyway).

That's great :) I have a commute of 40 mins by transit each way and wish that would go away but for the time being I love my job and the security is great... Also can't afford to live by my work :( So I spend 110 on a bus pass per month. At least my husband has a 10 min commute by car each way down from 15 mins now
