the flashy 200mph sports car and .8mpg boat are ssssssssold....

Well it has been sometime since I have been logged on, looks like my thread was from Jan of this year:

http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/share-your-badassity/in-writing-it-goes-200mph-sports-car-and-8-mpg-boat-are-on-the-chopping-block!/msg922458/#msg922458

Had a few naysayers clarify that intent to sell off some items of value and actually doing it are 2 different things. Happy to report that both the car and boat are now gone and to be honest it feels good! Private sales on both with no brokerage fees, double bonus.

Slightly painful watching the new owner drive away in my car that I would put in the air and toothbrush clean the frame. Slightly more painful handing off the boat to the new owner that I personally ran the HDMI cables from bow to stern to install 4 flat screens and wild audio system.

After taking some time to digest the sales I sold off another vehicle and rolled both into 1 sporty SUV with sticky 315s on the back to quell my appetite for flinging around the odd apex. Boatwise bought a few small toys to play with and get me out on the water (spending approx. the fuel bill annually on the sold boat to BUY them) and while it is adjustment has not lessened my enjoyment of either hobby really. Surprising. Very. Just use them differently.

Financially the sales did not do much to net worth much, more of a transfer. Have played with some risky stocks that I may not have or at least much less volumes (CGC and APH anyone in Canada, ha.). By sheer timing those then tripled in value and then some, in six months. I guess in that respect the sales of the toys have brought an increase in net worth and a healthy monthly cash flow boost (the boat) but certainly not life changing or doing things I did not do previously.

Have the golden handcuffs career wise and would like to make 8 more years to get the coveted defined benefit, non contributory pension but at times not sure it is even worth it to stay there at times. Then I smarten up until the next mentally challenging time. If I can make the 8 I'll be 50 at retirement. Late by MMM standards, reading others timelines I realize I am behind many and ahead of others, call it mid pack. And I am okay with that too.

Still some housecleaning to take care on other items but the bulk is done. Most odd result of all this is the questions from other people, mostly co-workers. "is everything okay" "is your health okay" "are you going bankrupt" "your new boat would have fit sideways on the back of the old boat", etc, etc, etc. Comical, and ironically does not bother me one iota.

To any others fence sitting on dumping some silly financial decisions go for it!

I love the odd questions from people.  I usually respond with honesty.  They never believe it.
