I biked to work 5 days/week for two spring semesters (Jan-April). The commute was 4.5 miles each way. It was South Florida and I only did it in the spring semester when I was cooler.
The biggest objective from people was, "what do you do, when it rains?" My reply was, "I get wet." Then I followed it up with, "I have an extra set of clothes in my office for that." I did get drenched a couple times. However, it was nice to know that it wasn't really that bad.
If I was super skilled, I would also ride my bike in the fall semester (August - December). However, that would require a shower when I got to work and thus I would have to leave the house 30-40 minutes earlier. The showers were a 10 minute walk across campus from my office. I didn't want to sacrifice the 30 minutes of sleep, so I drove in fall semester.
