Biking to work (pays threefold for me)
« on: August 04, 2016, 08:50:41 AM »
My work situation is that i work away, and stay for around a week. It is aprox 90km away.
My work pay me to get there approx 130$ to and from.
My work also allow me to do exercising during work hours, 2 hours a week. People at work usually stay in after their shift is finished and typically exercise for an hour or two. I asked my boss if i could do the same, just do the exrecise on my way home?? And the answer was YES. SO
I live 90km off this workplace, and my accumulating 2hour a week adds up to 8hours a month worth of exercise. I am typically at work two periods during one month.
Train / bus tickets for this distance is pretty expensive, around 70$ turn / return.
By biking i get for one turn / return 6hours of paid exercise worth around 200$ minus tax which is 50% because my wage is high, so i Earn 100$ plus the save the 70$ of bus tickets, which makes me 170$ after tax each time i cycle to and from work more than with train / bus .
If i bike i earn 230$ after tax in total.
And the big bonus is that i sold one car, so the family can do with only one car. This saving is the biggest of them all, around 700$ a month here in Norway i calculated from the last three years ,yes it was a new leasing volkswagen golf, so it could have been cheeper, but car here in Norway is way expensive.
But the thing i really like is to get 230$ in cash for exercising for 6hours ;-).

I get a little bit "cannot afford not to do it) when the weather is bad and so, but the pay is unbelievable i agree. Sure i am amongst the 100 best paid cyclists in Norway those hours i guess ;-)

Holy Awesomesauce!
that is badass! Congratulations!
My workplace used to pay $2.25/day for 'alternate' transportation methods (walk, bike, bus etc) and something like $1/day for carpool, moto, scooter, hybrid etc. Unfortunately they scrapped that program 2016, so I took a 'pay cut' of over $400 this year :(

You know, i kind of invented this myself, no one else does it, because people generally have "so much" money that they would not think this way. 1 work hour more is one work hour more and one hour closer to the goal, and if i can bike doing one work hour, then GREAT.

That's a good range of benefits offered by your employer and a clever way to combine them and get the most out of the options.

One time i needed to go to the dentist (i need dentist check every year and the arrange for it) so i biked down, did my dentist at 12:00 and biked home. A whole day of work. Does only work once a year, but how fun :-)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
