$11,700 in CC Debt GONE!
« on: April 09, 2018, 08:38:22 AM »
I am making the final payment to kill my credit card debt this week. $293 stands in the way of me and being CC debt FREE!

I started in December 2017 with $11,700 split between 3 cards (RIP). I used my annual bonus in January to pay off 2 of those cards fully, and have spent the past 4 months making $1,000+ per month payments to the remaining card. I was unbelievably stressed about this situation a short 6 months ago... it's hard to believe how your situation can change so drastically in such a small period of time if you buckle down and force yourself to make big changes. It wasn't fun, but it was worth it.

MMM and this forum specifically was the game-changer to push me over the edge and make me do this. Thanks to everyone who has ever read or commented on someone else's journal, case study, etc. The face punches doled out around these parts are truly life changing.

I'm a red panda

Awesome! Congrats!

I was in about $17k in cc debt a few years after college. And it was paralyzing. I don't know how else to put it. But I was able to get a new job making some more money and I became obsessed with paying the debt off. This was in the day of 0% interest for a year deal, so I consolidated them, paid off what I could, then transfered again after the 0% interest rate was over. It took a few years but I did it. The whole world knew what I had done I told everyone lol. And what was surprising to me was how many people who came up to me and asked me if I could help them and show them how they could solve their debt issues.

I still consider paying off that debt to be one of the greatest and hardest things I have done. I made almost half what I make now. It really took a life style change.

And I haven't had any real CC debt since. And never will.

Congrats! Yes, I did something similar. I had decided last year that I wanted to get more serious about paying them off (or at least paying them down), and at the VERY least to stop paying interest. I did a bunch of balance transfers and had gotten everything on 0% cards when I found MMM. Life changer.

I want to scream it from the rooftops, too! But another part of me wants to keep it secret, because it still feels shameful... like "congrats, but how dumb do you have to be to rack up that much debt to begin with??" But the idea that sharing your story helped another person make positive changes in their life makes me want to do the same.
