Sounds like a great find! I am always pleased when I find something local I didn't know about. It sure makes like more pleasant to be able to bike/walk to the things you need :)

Nice stuff. Some of the markets are awesome for that, especially if you get there just before closing and aren't too fussy about how perfect the vegetables look.

A number of times I've scored bags of capsicums or potatoes or onions for a couple dollars, bananas at under a dollar a kilo (vs $3/kg in the shops), etc.

Hmm, I should go to the market next weekend :)

That's great!  I used to bike out to the farmer's market that's near us all the time, but they've raised their prices so much over the past three years that it's not worth going any more.  :(

We have a grossly overpriced farmer's market, but I love the whole business model of the joint, even though they don't get a dime of mine. We live about two hours from the big Amish community in PA. Occasionally, we take a day trip, and make sure to get off the tourist trail and load up where the locals buy their locally sourced foods. There can be incredible buys like produce for 1/3 of grocery store prices, homemade pies for $4, and cheap nuts, seeds, spices and other staples.

Well not many accuse the Amish of being dumb business people, and our local "Amish farmer's market" is proof. The Amish rent a gravel lot, just off the interstate heading into NYC. They then sell the very products I just listed, to the tourists and city folks. The big difference?  The same stuff I buy in their neighborhood is priced 3-5X higher in mine, LOL. The pies are $12 each, not $4, and the roasted Sunflower seeds are $13/LB not the $1.88 they get at home. The place is packed every Saturday, the lot is full and hundreds of folks drop obscene amounts on stuff that they could buy from their local grocery store for half as much. I love it!
