Bell Win!
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:04:36 PM »
Just saved my mother $768 a year on her internet/phone costs. Just by asking. Well, ok, it took almost 2 hours on the phone with hold times included.

That's over HALF of what she was paying, and without any drop in services. Makes me wonder what kind of profit they're making if they can (presumably) still make a profit from her services. Just how much fat do they build in???

Fantastic!

Given my wife and I operate our full internet/phone/cellular/entertainment on roughly $65/month, it's safe to say there's a lot of inflation in those prices.

An update:

My mother received her bill from Bell Canada today - it was unreduced. She spent an hour on the phone with them and they denied the previous conversation ever took place. They denied the existence of the employee who worked out the discount. They denied the discount.

Clearly she is changing providers. I am absolutely disgusted with this company.

Ever consider posting this on the Consumerist?

Best,

Thanks Mr. Pop - I've been speaking with a woman who writes for the Toronto Star. Her specialty is consumer protection and shaming big companies. We'll see how it goes.

Within most Canadian provinces, may I suggest Teksavvy (www.teksavvy.com). They are effectively resellers (of both internet and telephone services). Their rates are VERY good and I only have good things to say about their customer service.

Sadly whenever calling Bell, always write down who you spoke to and when (they do actually record and keep all those conversations).

That's part of what's so frustrating, Kazimieras - she has the name of the employee, the date of the conversation AND a "confirmation" number. Bell denies the existence of any of these things.

After 50 years of loyalty to Bell (in spite of my numerous attempts at getting her to change) she's been rewarded with a corporate "fuck you".

We will look into Teksavvy - I've heard good things about them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't switch to Rogers.  I had a 6 month wrong billing ordeal when we switched our internet and phone away from them (I had full records of the dozens of calls made to fix things, and it was only when I threatened to take them to the local newspaper that anything got fixed).  I'm much happier with TekSavvy.

A similar thing happened to me with Comcast once: when I initially signed up for service, I was offered a very good deal, but then my bill was wrong and the company denied knowledge of that offer.

I complained to the BBB, which motivated someone relatively high up to actually go and review Comcast's own copy of the call recording, whereupon she was forced to admit that I actually was offered that deal. Comcast agreed to honor it for 12 months, reneged after 6 months, then reinstated it for the remainder upon a second BBB complaint.

(Incidentally: I FUCKING HATE COMCAST, but I am CAPTIVE because there is no other reliable high-speed internet service at my house. It sucks so bad that I'm seriously considering running for city council in order to repeal their damn franchise agreement (among other reasons)!)

That's... really bad. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about Bell, but that is.. truly shameful.
