Fixed my central air
« on: June 06, 2017, 09:12:05 AM »
SCORE!  I fixed my central air conditioning this morning!  I saved myself big bucks on an a/c service call by replacing the run-capacitor on the outside unit. There are videos on YouTube to show you how and how to diagnose the problem. Only took about 45 minutes and $29.

Flexing my frugality muscles.

This once happened to my parents. The A/C went during the summer and they paid $2300 to have someone come out and fix it in a hurry. Crazy bills!

BADASS!  I'll have to remember this one in case our central air goes out.

I did the same thing last summer. I had a squirrel cage fan that happened to have the same value as the bad capacitor. I swapped it in and it worked. I ordered one using Ebay, but my brother in law stopped by and I couldn't stop him from replacing the part (he does HVAC work). I cancelled the order without a problem.

I did that with my furnace blower motor a few years ago.  It was fairly easy to do once I understood what the problem was, thanks to the resources on the internet.

Kudos!!
And I do a lot of home maintenance and repairs, but I wouldn't have even thought to diagnose A/C!   But I use to live next to a guy that did A/C on the side...

Nice work!

I replaced a dead blower motor a few weeks ago - still get a little bump of pride every time I hear it kick on.
