Awesome credit card deal, free flight and points for no cost! (Aus)

Tired of the Americans getting all the good deals? Every once in a while us Aussies get a decent one as well.

The platinum edge credit card, the most useful credit card in australia for accumulating points I think. 3 points per dollar at supermarkets and 2 points for petrol. The amex points are very good and convert 1 to 1 to airline miles. This is what I use to avoid travelling in economy when I can!
The card also comes with a free domestic return flight every year, have had no trouble calling up to redeem it for several years now.

Right now there is a deal where the first year with no annual fee and 10k points if you sign up through a referral link (5k normally). You can cancel before a year is up or keep it and pay the 195 per year if the free flights and points are worth it for you. So in summary you can get a free flight and some points for no $ cost.

I've been so close to signing up to this for a week. Only problem is that it is amex and lots of the places I shop don't accept it or have a surcharge so I'll need a visa/mastercard as well.

I have a trash commonwealth visa that I want to cancel because it has an annual fee and offers me nothing in return. It was ok when I was a student but now with all the fees they started to charge me when I graduated... I just need to cancel this one card and be done with that bank forever.

Applying for two credit cards when I potentially am looking to take up a home loan sometime this year too doesn't seem ideal.

It depends where you do most of your spending. If it's supermarkets and petrol, this is definitely the card you want. Like you said, ideally you'll have a mc/visa for places where amex isn't accepted or has a surcharge. You can always just use a debit card for those though in the mean time.
