crossed $300,000
« on: June 29, 2020, 07:30:12 AM »
Updated the spreadsheet and discovered we crossed 300k net worth for the first time. Still have about 800k to go until FI but hopefully the portfolio starts accelerating our progress from here on out.

We've been working at this for 10 years and it is good to see progress. Hopefully this encourages people just starting out. We have never made more than 90k combined.

Thanks to this community and MMM for helping us slowly purchase our freedom

Congrats!    Average market returns will bring in about a 1/3rd of your gross wage income each year.   That's pretty awesome!

Congrats! I also recently crossed the $300k mark.

Everyone says that after the first $100k the next $100k will come quicker, but the second and third have both taken the same amount of time for me. Guess that's how it goes in this crazy market.

Congrats on the progress! Closing in on the 1/3 point. I’d think you likely have the habits well solidified now. It’s never just an easy cruise, but keep doing what you’ve been doing. It really should seem to accelerate now...of course that can go in either direction, but don’t worry about that.

10 years ago was your net worth effectively zero? Or was it negative due to student loan debt, etc.?

Congrats! I also recently crossed the $300k mark.

I just crossed the $100k mark recently so hoping it does pick up from here. I first started tracking our net worth about five years ago and it was only about $10k as we were still paying off all our debts. So at this rate $300k is probably another 7-10 years off as contributions aren't going to make the same impact as they have so far.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

@Michael in ABQ ... Keep up the good work!. I graduated college with 15K of student loans and wife had another 29K, we only had about 2,000 in cash at that point so yes, we started in negative net worth territory.

Snowballs both ways sometimes too ;-)

Going up/down six figures in a short period of time earlier this year was a bit wild.

Tell me about it.  In mid-to-late February I was panicking about Covid and even took a day of work (while markets were at their peak) to buy a shitton of stuff at Costco because I had no idea how bad it might be.  But I didn't sell stock because I had been trained not to.

Watching the market tank and thinking it would be years to get back to square one and kicking myself for not acting when I perceived danger was so painful.  Mercifully I didn't crack and it's all come back now and here we are living in a bizzaro land of a permanent "Fed put" ... until the other shoe drops at some point.
