I had a planned medical procedure done earlier this month that's going to get me to my deductible of $2000, so I thought I'd take advantage of the higher-than-usual spending by looking for credit card offers with a good sign up bonus. I have a Chase Freedom card, but I didn't have the Freedom Unlimited card which is offering a sign up bonus of $150 for $500 spending in the first three months. (I was actually looking for something higher, but that was the best I could find for straight cash back - not interested in mileage/points.)
Applied online in < 5 minutes, approved with a $10,000 limit, will get my card within a couple weeks. I'll actually probably switch to using that one for most things, as it's 1.5% cash back instead of 1%, and just use the regular Freedom card for things that fall within the quarterly 5% category.
I know some people close cards they are using for "churning" but that's a pretty good limit which should up my credit score some, once the initial hit for the hard inquiry falls away.
I never carry a balance, and I already have the funds for the medical procedure.
