Commute destroyed.
« on: August 01, 2014, 10:38:02 PM »
I have been commuting 75 miles round trip the last two years.  Ignoring the financial costs, I have never had to commute (worked from home before).  Naturally this was not optimal.  Now for the upcoming school year I have gotten a raise from ~42k to ~52k and roundtrip commute is going from 75 miles to 2 miles :)

That sounds like a nice walk.  Good job!

I would say you will get more benefit out of gaining that extra hour of your day back, but the affect on the wallet will be a nice savings boost!

Have you calculated how much you will save on the commute alone? that is another big raise. Way to go.

I drive a paid off 2002 acura rsx that gets around 30-35mpg.  I was spending around 200 a month in gas plus whatever maintenance.  I think we could be a one car household but I have had this car since high school and still love driving it from time to time.

I loved my previous school, and pre mmm I would have stayed there for quite a while.  After this blog I had this daily aching to get rid of the insanity however possible.

Nice work! Killing that drive every day is going to transform your day. Hopefully you'll find that you love your new job too or at least the reduced commute makes up for leaving the old one :) Good luck!

Great score!!  Love to hear someone able to replace their job; especially with a shorter commute!

It's nice to hear these stories.  I have a similar commute each day and am now looking for a job closer to home.  I hope to eventually get my time back.  I realize how much I live for the weekends.

Next step is to get a bike.  Haven't rode at all since I was maybe 10.  Honestly if the weathers nice I will probably just walk some days too.
