A tiny windfall
« on: July 16, 2013, 02:11:18 PM »
Not really badassity because I didn't do anything, but last night I was going through old files and found a 5 year old 401K statement from my first job that offered any benefits.  I hat totally forgotten it existed.  I think I only ever put in about $1,000 and left the company before I was vested, but when I checked on it last night it was at $10,000!  I've been feeling a bummed lately because I just started saving for retirement and my $2500 401K at my new job seemed so pitiful.  Imagine my suprise when my net worth qradupled overnight!

And a good reminder that your money grows even when you ignore it (usually!).

Sweet!  I had something similar just happen too.  My last employer contacted me and told me I could roll over my pension plan, which I didn't even know I had.  And extra $2k towards my IRA.  Bam!
