Just returned from this Cross-Canada car camping/cycling:
https://www.thepoxbox.com/travel>130 days >30 000km driven, >10 500km biked.
In 2021 I'd never owned a car in my life and by 2022 managed this entire car camping / van life thing driving from Victoria BC to St John's Newfoundland and then back. Many months of planning on/off went into this. Learned a lot of things. Saw a lot of statues of "The World's Biggest X". Have you truly lived until you've seen the world's bigger beaver, loonie and moose? Are you even Canadian?
This was my first official "retirement" project. By my count this "saved" me about 15 000$ in motels (bare minimum) and 2600$ on rent.
It was a pretty unique trip as what almost everyone does is just bike one way across Canada while hauling camping gear and then taking a plane back home. My goal was much more tourism oriented, taking different roads out then back. I got to experience the best of Canadian cycling and road-tripping all in one summer in a way probably almost nobody else has done without a Camper Van at least.
I dunno, thought it was kind of badass. Still got the SUV with the car camping gear ready to be deployed for any weekend or week-long trips, or possible a longer USA trip next year.
Hey if you have a SUV already, know that you also own a portable motel!
