2017 Goals Evaluation
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:26:25 AM »
As we roll into December it is time to begin considering 2018 goals.  But first, how have you done on 2017 goals?

I found MMM in December, I made some goals for 2017 and went after them.  It is so rewarding to see progress and growth.  I am hooked.

2017 Goals:
1) increase net worth by 40,000 in 2017

Complete - YTD increase of $56,847 so far or 142% of Gail

2) Max out 2016 Roth IRA 11k

Complete - Maxed out 5,500 x 2 = 11,000 by 4/15/2017.  Just opened these once finding MMM

3) Max out 2016 HSA $3,937.50 remaining

Failed - contributed $3,000 towards 2016 by 4/15/17 or 76%

4) Max out 2017 Roth IRA $11,000

In-progress - $10,175/$11,000 or 93%, will contribute remaining $825 when next paycheck arrives

5) Max out HSA for 2017 $6,750

Complete - automatically thru payroll deductions

6) Increase 401k deferral to max by 10/1/17

Complete - will now have a maxed 401k for 2018

What a fun and rewarding year, felt like I got a significant raise only bc I paid attention and cut out useless stuff.  Looking forward to 2018 goals and progress.

My goals have been the same for a while now.  In order of importance:
1.  Max 2 Roth IRAs
2.  Max HSA
3.  Max 401k
4.  Drop $1K/month into a taxable account tagged for retirement.
5.  Cashflow 1 major home improvement project.

Did better than expected here even though some things didn't work out exactly as planned.

2017 Goals:
1) increase net worth by $28k in 2017

Complete - YTD increase of $50k so far

2) Max out 2017 401k

Failed - Success was dependent on receiving maximum year end bonus and corporate deemed it necessary to cut year end bonuses by 60% this year.  By the end of the year I will have only contributed about $15,300

2018 Goals:
1) increase net worth by $35k in 2018

2) Max out 2018 401k

3) Max out 2018 HSA (only contributed $3k in 2017, already changed my contribution to family max for 2018)

My goals were:
Max Simple IRA of $12,500 - check!
Max Roth of $5,500 - check!
Max HSA $1,500 - check!
Establish HELOC for house repairs - check!
Save $5,000 towards student loans (payments deferred until I graduate and hoping to have an account full when the deferral period is over) - not there yet, but close at $4,200, and still have some time left.
