In 2014 I bought an HP laptop for about $1,000. Really nice with a number pad, touchscreen and light-up keyboard.
Around December, 2015 I brought it to the Microsoft store where they said it was basically done for. BUT WAIT! I had a warranty.
Seeing that the scaled down plastic version of this same computer was now $400 on clearance, I picked up that one, and then used the difference to buy a bunch of Xbox games, Minecraft toys, and the Minecraft Encyclopedia set, more than completely taking care of Christmas!
And I still have that plastic laptop. It's great! Last month I had to replace the battery for $39.95, but that's it.
As for the games and toys, only this year have my younger kids stopped playing Minecraft. That's 3+ solid years of use, and 2 of the kids have read the books in full.
