We just clicked "Transfer funds" on the last payment of our $45K of debt! Thanks to a budget and healthy dose of mustachianism!

Woo hoo! Nice job. Keep up the great work and enjoy every moment of watching your net worth climb.

Care to share your story - how you got into debt and what you changed to pull yourself out?

This long ago post from the OP may shed some light:

Great thread! We got our sh*t together this year, around July, when our bank updated its website and it longer played nicely with Mint. So we searched around for another solution and found MMM and YNAB. EYES NOW OPEN!

This year we:
*Developed a frugal, serious and realistic budget, slashing spending in absolutely every category
*Paid off $9K cc debt
*Ditched our lease car and PAID CASH for a used Prius
*PAID CASH for our half of my step-kid's braces
*Paid off a ton of back taxes
*Got back to daily intense exercise -- at home, not a gym (and DH lost 35 pounds!)
*Religiously taking our lunches to work
*Took a camping staycation instead of something more expensive
*Developed a sense of "we're gonna be OK financially" for the first time ever.

For 2016 we're on track to:
*Pay off $40K in student and personal loans by August
*Put aside deposit money for our eventual move to another apartment
*Start maxing out DH's 401K by September
*Start investing in VTSAX by September

A few more years and you'll have serious FU money, and before you know it, you'll be FI!

Call me impressed. So many people hear about how to get out of debt, and so few make the necessary changes. You are rock stars!

If you had to give othe debtors one piece of advice, what would it be?
