100 km ride in 3 hrs . . .
« on: August 23, 2019, 11:35:21 AM »
97.07 km
3:00:59
Avg Speed: 32.18 kph
Max Speed: 71.36 kph
Elevation gain: 1800 ft
Avg heart rate: 145
Max heart rate: 179
Avg cadence: 86
Max cadence: 126
Average Temperature: 26.6 C

Not bad for a 200 lb guy on a 25 lb steel touring bike.  Definately the fastest solo ride I've had.  Time for some recovery gin!

Nice!! Did you have any tailwinds to take advantage of?

I could probably keep my heart rate lower, but it would also be in a car.

Whoa! Well done! Where did you ride to get that sort of rate?

My fastest 56 miles (in a half ironman race) was 3:15. That's with mostly closed roads, police stopping traffic to allow us through without slowing/stopping at intersections, and on a nice carbon fork road bike!

I was riding back to our house in Toronto after visiting my mom.  It was probably about 70% north and 30% east, and the wind was blowing north west . . . ended up being patches where there was a big tail wind and (smaller) patches where there was a big head wind.  It was certainly a big boost.

<-- 'Murican had to do math to figure out, yeah, 20 mph.  Good speed for a solo 100k, especially with some climbing!  I don't think I've done any solo timed efforts longer than 40k in many years.  Fast group rides are much easier on overall power output.

Nice Job!

Want to come tour around Alaska next summer? 100km days are about perfect for seeing things here.

Sounds like fun!  I don't know if my wife would let me go though . . . I'd be saddling her with our son for the whole period.  :P

Fair enough. It's an open invitation if you want to take a family camping trip some summer. There are a lot of scenic roads to ride up here. My wife doesn't ride much lately... Having vehicle support feels a little like cheating, but it's also really nice to ride an empty bike and still have a tent to sleep in.
