0.1M net worth!
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:14:54 PM »
I checked mint.com this morning and to my surprise I had a unexpected deposit of about 3k that put me over the 100k mark for net worth for the first time in my life.  This includes some personal property but its mostly cash and investments.  The most expensive item I own is a car (no house).  Anyways, I thought it was pretty badass myself.  So now to boost my ego even more i call my self a point 1 millionaire lol.

Congrats!

I'm within a stone's toss of this milestone myself, so I know what you feel like.

Congrats!  :)

I always like looking at what my typical peer has saved, and what I have saved versus different age brackets.  Kinda fun to think my NW fits in better with the 50+ than young people.  You as well. ;)

Congratulations! It must feel awesome to hit that milestone. Can't wait to do the same myself... I'm only a 0.003 millionaire. *sigh* at least it's still progress compared to my recent -10k net worth.

Congratulations!  That is definitely badass!  Gaining an extra digit to your NW is a big deal so enjoy the feeling (the next one is a bit farther away, but I expect will feel very good, too!)

You need a set of intermediate goals, like getting the 401k/IRA to six figures, doing the same with your personal investments, etc.

Just so happens I do have those goals!  I'm just not there yet but wanted to celebrate this milestone.  Thanks for the encouragement and advice.

Awesome! Depending on the state of my 401k today I may or may not be there with you (no worries there... that money has a long ride in the market ahead of it). I keep going back to MMM's "A Brief History of the ‘Stash: How we Saved from Zero to Retirement in Nine Years." While I don't think 9 years is going to get me there I always like to look at MMM's numbers and plot my position on his old map.

Well, i am getting close to the same milestone, but I am about to buy a house so that will set me back quite a bit.  I follow the thinking that you shouldn't count your primary residence in your net work since you will always need a place to live.

Congrats! The first $100k is by far the hardest to save, as you now have a growing "tailwind" of investment earnings pushing you along toward FI.

I do this too whenever I'm getting discouraged and want some motivation.  I think we're between years 6 and 7 right now, which isn't too bad on his timeline.

Yeah, it's amazing how much the interest alone will start generating. I remember my dad extolling me on the virtues of interest when I got my first statement from my savings account that had I think $50 in it - "You got a nickel- a whole nickel- for doing NOTHING!" and thinking, ok, hmm, great. Now the interest from my stash could almost cover my rent. Pretty awesome.

You and dahlink are both extremely badass. In a sense, going from negative to positive is the most significant milestone.
