Success! My employer switched over to direct deposit, and I promptly went to take advantage of the offers that Chase keeps sending me. "$300 bonus if you open a checking account with direct deposit" etc. etc.

It took a while for the direct deposit to actually get set up on the employer's side, but I checked my transactions in Mint today, and saw my $300 bonus! Hooray!

I actually used it to buy a replacement for my (currently slightly broken) laptop. Found a refurbished on with the specs I wanted on Amazon for $350, combined the $300 Chase bonus with an Amazon gift card (a CC bonus), and I'll have a new laptop that I didn't have to budget for....
